Thank you
Oh Yes. Of course! Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts…its a most amazing book! As syncronicy would have it, right after a writer friend had told me to read it a few months ago cuz they said his writing reminded them of mine, Johnny depp gave it to me and told me the exact same thing.
Depp was apparently trying to turn it into a movie at some point. Seems he’s friends with the author, bought the rights and everything… but the project fizzled somehow, dunno exactly what happened, guess they couldn’t get studio support or something. it’s a pretty hairy tale— but deifinitely one of the top 10 books I’ve EVER read. Must read stuff. Seriously. absolutely fabulous.
Reading Shantaram even helped me with my own writing. That book inspired me to impliment quite a few new editing ideas and so on during the rewrite of my last book.
I think that book actually may have raised the bar to set the standards for everything I write from now on. It’s that fucking good. Flawless writing + phrasing, with a deep philosophical undertone throughout, but without being too preachy. And, where he does get a little long-winded here + there, even THAT’S forgivable somehow, especially given the depth of the author’s hellish experiences which he writes about with such poetic elequence….
A rare liereary gem with an absolutely breathtaking amazing story to boot… non stop all the way thru. What more could one ask for?
If anybody hasn’t read that book, I suggest you check it out!!
